kowaiyoukai: (Inception Arthur/Eames dream bigger)
[personal profile] kowaiyoukai
I AM SO THRILLED THAT FANDOM AND I AGREE ON INCEPTION. I was worried no one else would see Arthur/Eames, that I'd be sitting there alone going HOMG YAYZ while everyone else was talking Arthur/Dom or Arthur/Ariadne. THANK GOD I WAS WRONG.

I really must write down SOMETHING fic-related for Inception. The movie was just so fucking phenomenal, it truly was. I've only seen it once, but I really need to get my ass to the theatre again. In the meantime, I've collected enough Inception fics, icons, and fanmizes that I should be occupied for the next short while.

OH! And I've started watching Invisible Man. LET ME TELL YOU. PEOPLE. THE GAY. HOMG. THE GAY. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW GAY INVISIBLE MAN IS. You all need to go and watch that like ASAP.

I NEED MOAR ICON SPACE LIEK NAO PLZ?!?! Playing Survivor with icons sucks. I hate it. What do I get rid of? *headdesk*

ALSO: What's this I hear about a new Sherlock Holmes BBC series? Who has info on this? Hm?!

The most important thing to know about the new Sherlock Holmes series is that it is VERY VERY ENTERTAINING. And dedicated to the books, despite modernisation. They have managed this well. Basically everyone must watch it.

Also, the sudden influx of Arthur/Eames brings me nothing but joy. The movie has only been out, what, a week?

I didn't even know there WAS a new series! I'll have to go find it ASAP. I am so far behind on fandom news, it kills me. *headdesk*

I only saw the movie last Saturday, so for me it's been like five days. But yay and joy to the Arthur/Eames love! I noticed you posted fic about them, and I'll be reading that. FOR SURE. ♥

EDIT: I meant to say this and I forgot to. I'm in the middle of reading the first Sherlock Holmes book, but there's so many after that and it's kind of daunting. It's good to know the new series is being faithful. And, most importantly... IS THERE GAY?!?!

Haha, I only saw the movie last saturday as well. the... first time?

the Sherlock series (i say series but it is just 3 90 min episodes) is treating the gay in a way that I am actually v into. Basically Sherlock is portrayed as asexual but everyone perceives him and Watson as being a gay couple (which in the 21st century... kinda makes sense considering their behaviour). some people don't like this because it means watson occasionally denies being Holmes' boyfriend, but i think it works really well because holmes is so detached from normal human life he NEVER addresses the issue of his sexuality, and watson seems far more annoyed by the idea that people think he'd move in with crazy crazy holmes after one day than the idea that he's gay. especially as watson's sister is a lesbian. i really enjoyed the way they treated holmes' sexuality in the first episode, anyway.

p.s. by the first sherlock holmes book, do you mean the novel? because the Sherlock first episode is based on A Study In Scarlet. i am a holmes nut but i basically don't read the novels... if you're feeling daunted, srsly just read the shorts stories instead. the novels always seem too long, to me.

I REALLY need to go and see Inception again. Like. REALLY.

That sounds INCREDIBLY cool. I'm in the middle of the one where they meet the first time, I THINK it's a Study in Scarlet but you'd know better than I would. But I like the idea of everyone thinking Holmes and Watson are gay. Because... HELLO. OBVIOUSLY. I also like the idea of Holmes being asexual--although, to be fair, I always prefer slash if it's an option. I am writing a fic where Holmes thinks he's asexual, but starts crushing on Watson, and it's quite crackalackin' and delicious so far.

I downloaded a bunch of stuff from SH sites thaat made it available-- stuff from Gutenberg (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/1661) and similar sites, all of which I'm sure you already know. I really need to get back to reading that, but I've been distracted by new fandoms. THAT ARE SHINY. ♥

Sherlock Holmes is really great because you can either read it as Holmes/Watson canon or as Holmes being asexual. Either way, it's very clear in the books that the Holmes-Watson relationship is very close, and Watson's relationship(s) with his wife(s) are pretty much awful. I love Holmes/Watson slash but when it comes to Holmes adaptations an asexual Holmes is far, far better than a Holmes who is attracted to women, because in the books one of Holmes' defining character traits is his intense misogyny and dislike of women in general.

If you want to read some Holmes/Watson fic, there is no better place to start than [livejournal.com profile] katieforsythe. She is the queen of Holmes fic. It is flawless.

Yup, that's a study in scarlet. Holmes whipping corpses in the mortuary! they have that in the show and it is AWESOME.

p.s. when you rewatch Inception... look out for the suits. i was ttly obsessing over the costumes on the second viewing. also, did you know this really cool thing about the soundtrack? Basically, the main booming soundtrack section that plays over the scenes when Cobb etc wash up on the beach? that is the brass intro from Je Ne Regrette Rien, slowed down. how freaking brilliant is that?

Date: 2010-07-30 08:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com
Yeah, already I noticed that Holmes is so misogynist, but it's kind of AMAZING. I love it when male leads aren't playboys--that just happens far too often for my liking. Asexual!Holmes beats straight!Holmes BY FAR, but I think Holmes/Watson is the best. I am such a predictable slasher, it's actually kind of sad. XD

Thanks for the rec! I'll definitely go look her stuff up. I've been wanting some good H/W stuff, so this is very much appreciated indeed. \o/

I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SHOW. I've got to get it. LIEK RITE NAO!! :P

P.S. I didn't even notice that. I'm trying to con a friend into going with me again, we'll see how it goes. BUT HOMG AWESOME!! I really need to get a copy of Je Ne Regrette Rien. *headdesk*

INCEPTION IS ROCKINGLY AWESOME!! You really should go see it. I'm not a huge fan of Leo myself, but the movie is just amazing. I mean, Nolan directed it, so you KNOW it's going to kick ass. \o/

If you're talking about I-Man, starring Vince Ventresca, OMFG, you are sooo right about THE GAY. I wrote a couple of I-Man novels and collaborated on some fanzines some years back when the show was still on (I will NEVER forgive Sci Fi channel for canceling it -- when it was their second top-rated show, after Farscape -- so they could buy SG-1 from Showtime after that network was ready to drop that series). I even have a couple of prints of some art Paul Ben Victor did (signed and numbered) of the show's characters.

Totally freaking awesome slashiness. :)

I am INDEED talking about I-Man starrign Vince Ventresca. I have a complicated history with that show. I started watching it when it first came out, but I was paranoid and I was FUCKING TERRIFIED of the Catevari in the second (third?) episode. In fact, I was so terrified of that character that I stopped watching the show. Which is probably a good thing, because I would NEVER have gotten the UBER-GAY at that point. So tell me, then, where should I go for I-Man fandoms stuff? Fics, vids, icons, mixes, etc? Point me in the right direction here!

BTW, I looked for your I-Man novels, but couldn't find them! WTF MAN!! Hand 'em over!! *stomps foot*

::wheels out most appropriate icon, even though it's not the right set of actors...::

I have to say first off that I have an irational dislike of Leonardo de Caprio and won't watch any of his films. (I also have the same relationship with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise). I probably miss out on some good films that way, but so be it ;).

As for Invisible Man, which version? I've caught various reruns of the David McCallum version years ago, but I can't remember whether the newer version made it over here. I've a feeling it did and that I watched it, but I have no actual memory of it!!! Not good, brain. Not good! Also, it's entirely possible I'm actually thinking of Jake 2.0! /fail

On to something I can tell you about. The BBC have indeed made a new Holmes series. It's called Sherlock and is three episodes, 90 minutes each. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes, Martin Freeman as Watson and Rupert Graves as Lestrade. I don't know if you are a fan of Doctor Who, but Sherlock was created and written by the guy in charge of DW, Steven Moffat, and one of the DW writers, Mark Gatis (who also plays a character in the seres- won't say who though, as it's a big part of ep one and I don't want to spoil it).

I was wary at first, because it's a modernisation. Holmes is all about the texting and there's not a gaslight or bank of fog to be seen. But beyond that, it's pretty close to what I remeber of the books.

The first episode was a lot of fun. The characters are well played, there's humour- even inappropriate Holmes-humour at gruesome crime scenes. Lestrade has a grudging respect for Sherlock. Watson meets Sherlock for the first time in this first episode, so he spends a lot of time being amusingly baffled, but intrigued. There's a running joke that everyone assumes Watson is Holmes' boyfriend :). It's easy to see why with the amusing scenes at the start, featuring oblivious!Holmes and a female morgue attendant *g*. There's definite fodder for slash. Hell, it's very nearly canon! *vbg*

All in all, I'm looking forward to next Sunday and highly recommend you get hold of it as soon as possible!

Laura.

I'm actually not a big fan of Leonardo di Caprio myself, although I liked Shutter Island. But I LOVED Inception. And it's by Nolan, who did Memento, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight, so that was a definite selling point for me. Plus, there's very great subtextual gay. But if you hate the main actor, it'd be hard to watch. Le sigh.

I meant I-Man, the 2000 SciFi version starring Vince Ventresca (sp?). It's incredibly gay basically from the very beginning. And hysterical. At only two seasons, it's a quick watch and really great if you need a dose of something old-school slashy. Highly rec'd!!

OKAY NOW I AM ALL EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW SHERLOCK HOLMES BBC SERIES!! I really will have to get my hands on it. I love it when Holmes can be either asexual or gay, but obviosuly my preference is Holmes/Watson. Thanks for all the info on it! I'd just heard a rumor mentioned and I didn't know what was going on. Lack of internet will do that to a person. *headdesk*

I now have an appropriate icon!

I've watched all three eps now and can honestly say I loved it. Well written, well acted and well cast. The only downside is that it was only three episodes. D:

Good news is that it seems to be getting a second series, but the bad news is that it won't be shown until 2011! ::weeps::

I've been drowning myself in fic to compensate. There seem to be several LJ comms that've sprung up, but so far I've only been on Sherlock BBC

Laura.

I am really uber-excited about this and you are not making the wait any easier. Just FYI. :P

I have dl'd two vids for it and will watch them to spoil myself for the gayest parts. YES. THAT IS A TERRIBLE PLAN WHICH I WILL SHORTLY COMMENCE.

I joined the comm, but am otherwise staying far far away until I actually SEE the show. I did grab Thandie's vid for it, though, so I feel that's good for the time being. I AM DYING TO WATCH THIS. NO JOKE. *headdesk*

*still does not have an appropriate icon*

Oh, I-Man. Back in middle school, it was all about the I-Man and the Big Wolf on Campus (don't judge me please). I loved I-Man SOOOOOOOOO much, and I was devastated when they canceled it! But damned if I didn't check Amazon every six months or so to see if it had come out on DVD. YEARS I waited...and waited... until finally last year sometime I think it was I finally found the pre-order listing! Jubilation!! It was then that I got my DVD set, re-watched my beloved middle school television show and came to the same conclusion you have--that show is slashier than all get-out. I mean REALLY. Fawkes and Hobbes bicker like old marrieds. And it made me like the show even MOOOOOOAR. <3 I-Man, and I'm pleased that you've come back to it after all these years! (FYI, Catavari episode scared the bejeezus out of me as well!)

Unfortunately, Syfy (or whateverthefuck) is notorious for canceling their best shows...I may have gotten over I-Man, because honestly it did start to drag a bit in those later episodes, but I STILL haven't forgiven them for The Dresden Files. No, really. I sent a drumstick to the network and everything; that show was freakin' amazing! Grr.

Also, /agree re: Inception and all related slashiness. I look forward to whatever awesome you inevitably cook up. ^_^!

I don't know what The Big Wolf on Campus is, but I'm LOVING I-Man!! I'm at the beginning of s2. It's GREAT!! I actually stopped watching b/c of Catavari, so I'm THRILLED I got back to it when I'm older and not as stupid.

I've been scouring fandom for I-Man stuff, but there's like, NOTHING!! I haven't found any fics, really, or icons or vids or anything at all. It's very disappointing. I feel I may have to write some fic just to even things out a bit here.

I never actually watched The Dresden Files. SADLY. I'm not a fan of the books, though. But yes, SciFi SUCKS for cancelling great shows. AGREED.

INCEPTION IS AWESOME. I AM FICCING LIEK NAO.

I only know I-man through fandom osmosis, but whoo have I heard about the gay. And apparently the actors are like super-cuddly with each other in interviews and stuff too. I know Seah and Margie did a couple I-man vids here, but my all-time favorite I-man vid is by sisabet here. Happy new fandom!

LOL, I think I was more creepy with the, like, half a decade late comment, actually. XD

I-Man vid recs!! I-MAN VID RECS!! *flails around happily* THANK YOU!!!! I have dl'd and will watch ASAP. Because I am addicted to fanvids. AND I'M NOT SORRY.

I really have to start watching interviews and outtakes and stuff, because people keep telling me how gay all the actors are in this stuff (ex. I-Man, Due South, Sentinel, etc.) and I haven't seen any of it yet. D:
