First, wtf McCain, you suck ass. Gay marriage is going to happen, suck it up.

http://redsambuca.livejournal.com/6951.htmlOf particular interest are the comments, specifically
esorlehcar's comment thread. But many others are worth the read.

So my stance on the whole issue should be quite clear to you all. Writing a fic where abuse/non-con/pedo/anything-else-you-might-find-objectionable happens does not mean I'm actually out there finding five-year-old boys to rape. Fanfiction kinks and interests do not equal RL kinks and interests -- they never have and they never will.
What I don't understand is the constant need to bash specific types of fanfic. If someone wants to write a story where Itachi raped Sasuke for years, let them. It's not anyone's call to tell someone what they can or can't write--if you don't like it, you just don't have to read it.
To be clear, I'm not saying that any one type of fic is better than another. Heck, I enjoy fics where Yama's dad repeatedly rapes him just as much I enjoy the ones where Draco and Harry have flufferly lurve. It's all a matter of what you're interested in reading, and knowing yourself enough to know where you draw the line. It's fiction, so the line doesn't have to be the same place as it is in real life.
Also, why is it that the list of negative topics always includes incest? This is seriously starting to bug me now that I'm down with the whole wincest thing. Before, when it was just Setsuna/Sara, it wasn't that big of a deal. But now that one of my top OTPs
ever is an incest pairing, I seriously am getting fed up with people assuming incest=rape. Non-con is rape, people. Incest can be consensual with above-age people all around.
Also, why call out one or two specific fis and say, this is the example of all that is wrong with the fandom? I mean, there's always the back button, people. It's pretty and shiny and all nice. I've clicked it several times myself, including, but not limited to, fics with Padfoot/Harry, Vernon/Harry, werewolf!Remus/Padfoot, and those are just the first few that spring to mind as being really squicky. I mean, mpreg squicks me so I back button for that, too.
So, I guess what I'm saying is, fandom has no moral standing to base fics off of. Fics are what people want to write/read, no one is forcing you to write/read them, so shut the fuck up. Finally, what's up with the "my kink is okay but yours isn't" mindset? How is someone who's into, say furries, going to tell me that wincest is morally wrong. I don't judge, and neither should anyone else. We're all in the fandom together. Can't we all just get along, or some such other optimistic hopeful ending comment?
