The Authority - Comic Rec!!

OKies, so I've been fangirling about this, and I'll post about it now. Basically, the Authority is a DC/Wildstorm comic that's about a team of superheroes who work internationally (and on other worlds/parallel universes as well) and dictate what should and shouldn't be done based on their own ideas of right and wrong. In short, I like every character and plot arc, which never happens to me. EVER. The characters are all chosen to represent these aspects of society that are generally considered morally inappropriate or ambiguous, but are also culturally relevant to contemporary society. There are (basically) 7 main characters:
- Jenny Sparks, the leader and spirit of the 20th century, who is later replaced by Jenny Quantum, spirit of the 21st century
- Apollo, the most powerful team member who is also gay, and sometimes flamingly so
- Midnighter, combat fighter-type who is with Apollo
- Jack Hawksmoor, who's able to "speak" to cities and was developed to live in urban areas
- The first Doctor we meet (there are several of them) is a magician/shaman who's a drug addict
- The first Engineer we meet (again, more than one) replaced her blood with these technological organisms and is now mostly a computer
- Swift, this chick who flies and is half-bird

So, basically, go out and read this. If the idea that a group of people who are gay/bi-curious, drug addicts, smokers/drinkers, computerized, and able to talk with urban environemnts are the ones who make up the laws of morality in this world does not appeal to you, you fail at fandom. :P

EDIT: B/c I'm a dipshit and forgot to say it. Every character is treated really awesomely and developed in great ways. It's a very appealing storyline, as well. But yes, it's a superhero story, so if people saving the world from evil isn't your thing, you're not going to like this. ALTHOUGH I SHOULD SAY!! I honestly think Apollo/Midnighter is probably the best canon gay pairing I've ever seen. Anywhere, ever. They're shown to be people, and strong kick-ass people, and the fact that they're gay and together doesn't stop them from being kick-ass, and it's also not focused on as an aspect of their personality. You know how some series have the "gay character(s)", and that's what their personality is? That so-and-so is gay? Yeah, the Authority does not do that at all. Instead, we get characters who actually have opinions about what's going on in the world, the power to change what they feel is wrong, and who are generally awesome. This is how gay should be done in comics, people. Take notes.

Young Avengers - Comic Rec!!

H'okay, next one. Young Avengers. Read TPB 1, getting TPB 2 in the mail shortly. After TPB 1, here's what I've got to say. I don't think Billy/Teddy was obvious in any way. Sorry, but the biggest gay scene in vol. 1 was when Iron Man had his arm wrapped around Captain America, and Cap's knee was bent and it was so fucking flaming I LOL'd and feel off my bed. In a good way, of course, but still. WOW THAT WAS SO GAY. I wish I had the picture scanned already--I'll edit this entry later with it, b/c SRSLY.

Anyway, Billy was my favorite, and he's very hot, which is, you know, quite important. Teddy was nice and all, but I just didn't really get a good impression of him. But I LOVED Eli, Katie, and Cassie. And Iron Lad, very sad to see that go down the way it did. I'm looking forward to reading more, but I do hope Billy and Teddy are more obvious about being gay. I mean, really. *le sigh*

Still, rec'd to anyone who likes Generation X, Runaways, and New X-Men: Academy X. This fits in perfectly with those groups of teenangers with mutant powers struggling to fit in--which is what Marvel excels at and should stick with, srsly. There's a bit more fighting than I normally like to see, but other than that, it's good. And I was actually interested in the fighting, so I guess that's a plus too.

Repo! The Genetic Opera - Movie Rec!!

Yeah, I know, I'm spamming. Oh well, suck it up. This'll be good for you, I promise. Most of you guys have probably already seen this, but JUST IN CASE!! You guys need to go and watch Repo: the Genetic Opera. It's like a mixture of Saw, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Sweeney Todd. Or something. Anyway, it's good, and it's made by Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, so really, is there anything else you actually need to know aout it?

A few things for those who've already seen it, which I think is everybody, so I'm not going to bother with cutting this. I really wanted to see more of that dude with the drugs, the grave robber! He was so awesome. ♥

Okay, that's all. The movie's goth, bloody, sexy, and fucked. So fucked I had to go and listen to Down with the Sickness, E Nomine, Rammstein, TOOL, and Mindless Self Indulgence to deal with it. :P

It sucks. Just found out a kiss b/t Apollo and Midnighter was taken out of an issue b/c the artist got censored--the company was worried about the backlash or some bullshit like that. That's why the artists changed so often, is what I'm gathering. Anyone know anything of this?

Also, ran across some stuff by hippydeath. Two Authority fanmixes--one gen and one Apollo/Midnighter, and also a wallpaper. Nice.
