I don't even know where to start with this other than saying that I think this may be my favorite chapter of Apogee thus far. Omg. It was made of Love.
First you had insecure!jim...well, not insecure so much as low self esteem Jim which is just awesome. I especially liked how you followed that up in the next part of Spock's pov by having him comment on Jim's 'high intelligence'.
Second, your Bones is a sneaky sonuvabitch. I like it. And I have so much love for you right now for adding in more Bones time. I'm looking forward to interlude so much and it's such a relief to see someone actually take into account the fact that he has psych training. You = &hearts
Third: The Wilshaw Situation. OMG. I loved how Spock handled things but Geezus, Jim was BadAss. And more importantly, I'm excited to see how his crew reacts to realizing that fact. Because up until this point he's been friendly and personable but he hasn't really had to show his 'means business' side before. I see this as a real turning point in that matter.
I also really liked your mention of how the loss of most of the cadet class had led to people graduating who would not have otherwise. I'm really curious to see how that affects the Enterprise in general.
And to finish with lolz. This was the best frikkin line(s) ever!
Maybe all he'd be expected to do was look foreboding in the background. Spock could look foreboding like nobody's business. He considered it a necessary job skill.
I had to take a moment to properly lolz about that when I read it, although I think I might have scared my cats. ::blinks::
You rock chica, and I can't wait to read chapter 9. :D
