Meta: Batman/Joker, and why it doesn't always work

This is just a few ideas I had after looking at various ways Batman and Joker have been portrayed in the movie verses. I'm a huge fan of Nolanverse Batman/Joker, but I found myself severely turned off by Burtonverse Batman/Joker. Also, I watched Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, and I thought the relationship there fell somewhere in the middle.
