Still Not Dead

HI again people! I'm at [livejournal.com profile] jelost's house again for the week, this time with [livejournal.com profile] siriuslyyellow in tow. Here's what I've been doing that you probably don't care about:

- playing Arkham Asylum. HOLLA BACK!! This game is FUCKING PHENOMENAL!! I am loving it. I'm 43% done with it so far, so I'm looking forward to finishing it. Plus, now I can access the section where you can play as the Joker since I'm at the internet now. \o/ I am kicking ass and taking names with solving the Riddler's challenges. XD

- finished watching Oz and I fucking loved it!! Keller/Beecher FTW!! NO SRSLY THO. Where are the fanvids when you need them? ALso finished Band of Brothers (have I said that already?) and loved it!! Winters/Nixon FTW!! Yes I ship them even though it's based on real people and no I don't feel bad about it at all. XP

- currently watching: Animorphs (shipping Tobias/Rachel & Jake/Marco--that last one by accident--they are WAY more slashable in the TV show than they were in the books) & Psych (I am confused about my ship at this point. Probably Shawn/Lassiter even though I'm not convinced yet) & Farscape (John/Aeryn (sp?) totally rocks!). But soon I will be watching SGA and life will be a happy place for me.

- read Hush. Um, WTF it was so not as good as I thought it would be. Batman needs to stop chasing after Catwoman and accept that he and the Joker are in love already. FOR PETE'S SAKE.

- my cell phone is no longer alive due to lack of money. DX No tweets or contact with the outside world for me. *headdesk* Am possibly getting a job to correct the situation, but that would mean less time for writing, which would SUCK. *le sigh*

Things you might care about:

- Apogee 10b is coming along. I re-wrote it b/c of a few comments that had me thinking about something else I should do, but I'm hoping it'll be done soon.

- Apogee BB is totally stalled b/c of 10b, which means either I'll finish it in a rush of staying up all night four nights in a row or I won't finish it at all and put it out later myself.

- working on my first ever fanmix for a fandom I'm in but not currently ficcing for, and it's almost done! \o/

Um, I think that's it? I'll reply to the comments I've gotten these past two weeks later. Right now, I think I'm off to write. Or sleep. Not sure yet. We'll see what happens when I get to the air mattress and have to make the decision to fall upon it or walk by to my computer, which I brought with me for writing purposes.

Just wanted to update now to say I'm alive and working on shit and there's no need for panic. :P

ILU ALL LIEK WHOA!! ♥ ♥ ♥

EVERYONE I KNOW HAS THAT FREAKING GAME EXCEPT ME. >:(

I'm glad you're not dead though. :D

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
It is a great game. You should be jealous of me in a whole lot of ways. XD

[identity profile] theburningboy.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)

- Apogee BB is totally stalled b/c of 10b, which means either I'll finish it in a rush of staying up all night four nights in a row or I won't finish it at all and put it out later myself.

Won't finish it at all? O.O *wibbles*

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! Well, I'm going to try to finish it either way! But I meant I might not finish it in time for the BB and then I'd put it out whenever it got done. *shrugs* But I really want it done in time! *pouts*

Edited for spelling b/c I can't leave typos alone when I see them. *headdesk*

Yay Batman: Arkham Asylum! It's one of the best games of the year, and so amazing when it comes to actual Batman canon (unlike every single one of the movies, which are good and cool in their own minimal-relation-to-the-comics ways). Plus getting Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill on board was just the best thing to do ever. If you've never seen the 90s animated series, you're missing out on basically the best animated series ever.

The only thing I didn't like about Asylum was it only took me two days to beat it. :( The only thing I haven't done are the stealth challenges with the Joker because they're 50X harder than the Batman ones. lol

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've got to say I've only gotten into Batman canon since TDK came out. SO, it's all fairly new for me. I mean, I'm slowly getting through the B/J must-reads, and so far my favs are Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The Killing Joke, The Long Halloween, and Batman: Year One. I'd like to read more, but I'm in too many fandoms to ever catch up! *headdesk* Still, Arkham is banging but I'm not even nearly done with it yet. I haven't even connected my PS3 to the internets yet to unlock anything extra, like the Joker. *pines*

I need to see that series. Maybe I'll find a dl of it somewhere this week. Hm... XP

[identity profile] shadowqueen28.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's hard because Batman keeps adding to its own canon every month and still has all the history that comes with a character created in the 1930s. And then he also operates within the greater DC Universe, so he has relationships with the Justice League and villains you wouldn't consider to be part of his rogue's gallery. Plus he shows up in way more monthly titles than just his own self-titled one.

I understand how daunting it is, but you've read stories like The Long Halloween so you know just how awesome and well-done his stories can be. Definitely watch the animated series. It's what allowed me to feel brave enough to venture into the DC Universe many years ago. Although you really don't want to know what's going on with Batman in the comics presently...

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
See, that sort of thing is exactly why I stopped following the Marvelverse years ago. I collected loads of comics, mostly X-Men and the assorted off-shot teams, but then it just got to be too expensive and confusing to continue each month. I wish there was a better way for these huge verses, but I've recently just been sticking to stand-alone titles that everyone rec's (Sandman, Preacher, Y: the Last Man, etc.) and the must-have titles in Marvel, DC, and Vertigo. And I'm even behind on that, honestly. *headdesk*

I'll have to get my hands on it. And, now you know I've just got to ask, but what's going on with Batman now? *prepares for tidings of doom*

[identity profile] shadowqueen28.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been reading recent Batman comics (mostly because I have no money and because this RIP story-arc has been WTF crazy), but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_R.I.P. pretty much explains it. And when I say "explains it," I mean "will probably make you more confused." Because I don't really understand it myself. Apparently DC is trying its hardest to make us believe Batman is dead. Dick Grayson is even wearing the cowl now. But nobody in the real world believes Batman is dead, of course. It's not like comic book characters stay dead. *cough* Jean Grey *cough* We'll just have to wait a couple years to see how they magically undo this. Meanwhile I will still not be buying Batman comics.

If you can make any sense out of the RIP stuff, please enlighten me.

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, I bought the Batman R.I.P. hardcover b/c I was told it was good, and I read it and it SUCKED. Honestly, this entire debacle has made me hate Gaiman, who I heard was credited with a large part of the idea. I don't really midn the writers of Batman so much, but Gaiman gets these ideas and he thinks he can just screw with canon. Whatever, I'm sure it'll all be over soon.

I couldn't help you out with making any sense of that crap. It sucks the storyline's going in that direction. *headdesk*

YAY FOR YOU BEING ALIVE! :D!

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
YAY! I'm happy about it too. XD

[identity profile] solfastir.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Also, happy birthday in 3 hours? My livejournal has informed me of this knowledge.

♥♥♥ MAY YOU DAY BE FILLED WITH SUCH HAPPINESS ONLY FOUND ELSEWHERE IN THE DEEP, SCHMOOPY MENTAL BOND THAT KIRK AND SPOCK SHARE. ♥♥♥

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, LOL, wait what? My birthday is September 10th, bot the 9th... um, did I put it in wrong? *goes to investigate* But you still win at wishing me happy birthday first! *throws confetti* XD

[identity profile] solfastir.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
LOL I FAIL AT KNOWING WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK IT IS. WOOOO. HAPPY EARLY EARLY BIRTHDAY THEN. XD

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks again! You rock! ♥ Early birthdays rock, they're kind of like un-birthdays. \o/

[identity profile] empath89.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for you being alive.

I kinda always shipped tobias/jake...*shrugs* don't know why.

And I can't wait for more apogee.

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I agree completely. \o/ XD

LOL, I never even thought about Tobias/Jake before. But now that you mention it, I think I like it. :P

Me too! I'm trying to do this ONE STUPID SCENE and it JUST WON'T GET FINISHED!! *headdesk* I think Spock's just being a whiny bitch. *headdesk*

[identity profile] empath89.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...tobias/jake always made sense to me. And I'm glad you like it.

Yeah...spock can be a whiny bitch sometimes. It's ok. Take your time. Good writing can't be rushed. How's ff.net working out for you?

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-08 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fun idea. I get it, but I'm also really attached to Tobias/Rachel, and that's one of the few het ships I actually like. Oddly. But I'm always up for slash, srsly. :P

I'd really like to get it up soon, b/c when I've got a lot of problems with a section I always like knowing what people's reactions to it are. As for FFN, I haven't really checked it again, but it looks all right. I'm debating whether or not I'm going to disable anonymous reviews. It's up in the air, really.

[identity profile] yaoi-slut.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You've certainly been gone a while!

I haven't heard of the first game, but I'm glad you like it! I should check it out. ^^ I've been told to check out Oz but never got around to it. Maybe I should look into it again.

Hahahahahahahahaha- HOMG, I can't believe you're watching that horrible adaptation. XD I never shipped anyone when reading that story growing up, and honestly I never saw the chemistry between any of the characters, including Jake and Cassie. (Cassie was originally supposed to be Jake's little brother, anyway. With a different name, of course. >.> So maybe Applegate was pressured to change it to a girl and the whole thing was forced, kind of like what happened in Night Life.) But glad you see nice slash potential.

I was really disappointed with the live action series. It sure didn't last long. But at the time it came out, I was WAY into the books.

Psych... Noooooo. Ok, gonna keep my mouth shut on that one. I don't want to keep bashing the shows you're watching, but I was gonna actually make a post on that one. Maybe I'll make a little "do not read if you love this show" warning. ^^;;; If that's the show I'm thinking of, actually. Maybe it's not.

Batman needs to stop chasing after Catwoman and accept that he and the Joker are in love already. FOR PETE'S SAKE.

LMAO! Seriously, man. Get a clue! Hahaha...

I'm sorry to hear about your cell, though. That happened to me, and it was my only phone as well. x_x Two months before I paid it off again, but in the end, I kind of liked the silence it gave me for a while. I hope you can turn your phone on again, soon! Jobs are icky sometimes, but yay money. And I hope you can get lots of writing done, either way!

Is Apogee 10b a fanfic? You know I'm interested in your original stuff, whenever you get around to posting any of that. But if it's a fandom I happen to like, I'll check it out. ^^

Anyway, I'm finally caught up on LJ! Hurray! And I'm glad to see you around again, even if it'll be rare. But yay for writing! Keep it up, hon!

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it sucks! *headdesk*

Definitely check out Arkham Asylum and Oz when you get a chance. They rock!

I hated it when I first saw it as a kid, but now that I'm older I see more potential in it. I shipped Tobias/Rachel growing up, and now I still ship them but am getting into Jake/Marco too. What can I say? I've always been a shipper, I guess. :P That's interesting about Cassie--I never knew that. Things make more sense now.

Yeah, I like the books way more, but now the live action series isn't SO bad.

LOL, I'm only eight eps into s1 of Psych, and so far I'm not thrilled with it. Everyone says there's slash but I'm still waiting to see it. I prefer drama and angst, so it's not really my thing. I don't know what show you're thinking of, but no worries about bashing Psych to me. XD

Batman/Joker FTW! That is all.

I need a cell and I need a job, but I don't WANT either. RL sucks sometimes like that.

Apogee is a fanfic, indeed! (http://kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com/109470.html) - Check out the first chapter there and you might like it. XP It's Star TRek XI, the new movie, Kirk/Spock.

I won't be posting any original stuff online for fear of people stealing it. BUt check out my fics anyway, you may like them! :P

HURRAH! LJ can be hard to keep up with. Make sure you keep on writing, too. <3

[identity profile] yaoi-slut.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I should watch it again. XD It's been a long time. I just remember some of the graphics were really weird, but it'd be interesting to see it now. It didn't go for more than a season, though, did it?

Oh sorry, wrong show! It isn't Psych that I'm thinking of, it's this thing called Mental on, where else, Fox. Oh my god, there are SO many things wrong with that show. I really feel like making a post about it eventually. I don't understand why Fox is so into self-injury. Is this because no one thought their girl pants looked good? Why do they keep producing these awful shows? Mental looks like it was shot with someone's camcorder. And I won't even get into the blatant House rip-offs, or the whole "charming, always knows what's best" doctor who is constantly putting all the women and black people in their place? Good one, Fox.

But yeah, don't watch that show. XD As for Psych, I know nothing about it. So, carry on. Lol.

Loooolz, real life DOES suck. *hugs* I'm sorry you have to deal with it. I hate putting up with it, too. x_x I hope you get those things, soon, though, and that they don't suck your soul out.

I'm not a huge fan of Star Trek, myself. I grew up with it because of my dad. But it was the Next Generation stuff anyway. I'll try to give it a read, though. ^^ I just prefer original, but I do understand your fears. I debate on what things I should post and what I shouldn't. But usually the stuff I put online is stuff I don't think would be accepted in mainstream markets. Especially with the current economy and the risk factors in all the gay sex. XD

I have a hard time getting into fanfiction for different reasons. But like I said, I'll check them out when I can. ^^

And yes, yes it is. Wtf. Stupid LJ. XD

Anyway, you've inspired me to work a bit, so I'm doing some writing and editing right now. Hurray! If only I were working on something actually marketable. But meh, writing is writing. I'll get to those other projects later. (Have like 80 "main projects" right now, but I'm starting to think some of them are moving to permanent back burner status. Lol.)

[identity profile] yaoi-slut.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Random italics halfway through, but I can't edit it now, lol.

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the special effects on Animorphs are really cheesy. It's funny to watch, tho. :P

Wow, that show sounds horrible. Glad I'm not watching it. Psych is fairly funny, although I'm still not convinced about the slash. Which is a deciding factor for me, really.

Oh, everything I publish will have gay romance in it, that's just how it is for me. \o/ I think it's all a matter of figuring out how to make believable, lovable, engaging characters.

I love fanfic b/c it really helps me to work on my writing skills and to think about my favorite shows/characters. Win all around! \o/

Enjoy the writing! Hope it goes well! <3 And no worries about the italics, HTML is fail. XD

[identity profile] yaoi-slut.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not everything I write has romance in it. Most of my fiction has gay romance, or a gay main character. (My pet project that is haunting me is about a teenager in a highly religious, oppressive little town, who's best friend and (secret) lover has killed himself. So obviously that one isn't really about romance so much as grief, accepting oneself despite adversity, and growing up.)

One thing I don't have is het romance. I have a few stories that are romance free, and those have open potential so that you can slash together whomever you'd like. The main two girls? A girl and a guy? Two guys? Your call. I try to push myself to write a variety of things so I don't become a one trick pony, like some writers you see out there.

But I'm glad fanfic helps you, and it's fun to add things to a show that doesn't have that aspect already. ^^ If I ever find good fanfic for a fandom I really, really like (which virtually never happens) I always love it. But there aren't many fandoms I search out fiction for.

Anyway, thank you! It went... short. XD But I'm writing more today! And yeah, I must have left out that damn backslash. Oh well.

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that sounds like a good story! I'd be interested in reading it. :D As for me, I'm a fangirl at heart, so if there's not romance I lose interest. *shrugs*

I actually make an effort to write stories with good canon couples that are slash, femmeslash, and het, as well as harder to define couples. Again, it's the fangirl's fault. I think subtext works up to a certain point, but depending on how long the book/series is, there's a point when I just think I need to get the characters together otherwise I'm being wishy-washy, you know?

It's always good to find things that help improve writing. Plus, fanfic has the added benefit of hot sex! Really, how can you go wrong? XP

Go write more! It's what we all should be doing instead of playing around on the internetz. XD

[identity profile] yaoi-slut.livejournal.com 2009-09-12 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, I don't like romance all that much, honestly. I like gay romance, but I don't like when the story falls to the romance and loses its plot. However, I love character interaction. I have a YA novel with a male main character and a side character whom he's really close to. And like I said, when my stories don't have romance, they're heavily slashy in different directions. I consider those to to be a canon couple, but they don't actually do anything that we can see in the story. In fact, they may not even fully realize what's going on between them. But personally, I like that stuff. Most of the time I prefer it to something being shoved in my face. (Though I like it more when eventually they do get together, but for the sake of this story, I can't see any actual relationships between any people fitting in. You can tell they love one another, though, either brotherly or more than that.)

Oh but thanks! I hope it does turn out to be a good story. ^^;;; It's been very hard to write, though, because I have it ALL plotted out yet I don't really feel much for the main character. He needs some sort of quirk to keep me focused on him. Everyone else is more interesting. >< I do that all the time with main characters. Ugh.

Yeah, a mix of romance is good. ^^ When I was younger and first getting into yaoi, I would ONLY read things with gay relationships in them. Like it had to have gay sex, or gay love, or I wouldn't even touch it. Het, especially, just pissed me off. Lol. I got over that as I got older, of course. So yay, it's good that you do that. ^^ I true to do it, too, though not necessarily all in the same story.

I guess my feeling on "subtext" is that sometimes that's what it is, and sometimes it's just up to interpretation. Like the movie 9 which I just saw... Film adaptation of the short movie. The character relationships are so endearing, and while I'm not going to slash together two genitalia-lacking dolls made out of burlap sacks, the way they touch and treat one another was very moving to me. So yeah, to each their own, I suppose. XD

And yes, you are so right. The internet is one of the biggest things that gets in the way of writing. I swear. Gonna try to get more writing done today. Good luck to you on that front!

[identity profile] twilightscribe.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well at least the good news is that you're not dead; I was starting to get worried. Also, happy early birthday! (best to do it early or my brain goes 'PFFFF'). As for what you're doing... Yay Batman. I can't play games like that... I'm way into RPG.

Hm, ANIMORPHS IS AWESOME. I was huge into that story when I was little, and as for the live-action series, it was meeeeehh. My favorite character was Ax (yes, I liked the alien).

I shall sit and wait for the update along with seeing what this fanmix is. *makes fanmixes herself*

[identity profile] kowaiyoukai.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, still alive and nothing to worry about. Thanks for the wishes! I love Arkham Asylum, but RPGs are my first and foremost love. ♥

I read the books when they came out and I loved them liek whoa, and when the show came out I didn't like it. I'm re-watching it now with fresher eyes and it's actually not too bad. My favorite is Tobias. ♥ Ax was funny, tho. I liked that he was good friends with my emo hawk. XD

The fanmix is up! LOL, but it's so cracky I doubt anyone cares. XP
