I really enjoyed the way you set up the two central relationships. Spock is, understandably, all over the place emotionally and it makes sense that Jim would be able to get him to talk about it, simply because his own emotions are so mercurial and he's used to dealing with it. Whereas Uhura, as Spock himself thought, is used to dealing logically where Spock is concerned. I also think she's quite logical herself, she analyses languages and communications all day, so she has to have a personality that relies on logic. Much as she wants to help Spock, I don't think her approach- keeping him in the relationship for six months- is what he needs right now.
It's all been set up nicely for some inter-personal angst, confusion and upheaval. Yay.
On a wider view of the story, I loved the poker game, the Kirk/Spock discusion about the Captain's chair and the friendships already starting to form between the core characters. I also think you've caught all the voices right and I liked seeing things from Spock's pov, not to mention Kirk's, with his feelings about how awesome he is *vbg*.

I hope part two will be along shortly.
