A Very Weird Question

I get this strange reaction to a few people in fandom. Not saying any names, b/c that's not the point of this, but you guys know when someone (usually a BNF) gets published IRL and then sort of completely drops out of fandom and all they can talk about is their own stuff or the stuff of the people they know who have also been published?

This phenomenon hurts me. ;_;

I swear, I will never abandon fandom or fanfiction, no matter if I get published or not. \o/

I JUST SAID THAT TO SOMEONE YESTERDAY. THESE EXACT WORDS, I WILL COPY PASTE THEM!!!!!!

TigersLoveMe87 (1:22:10 AM): reminds me of ______.
TigersLoveMe87 (1:22:14 AM): God, I miss ______ fic. =(
TigersLoveMe87 (1:24:31 AM): If I get published one day or start writing amazing screenplays that people actually want to make movies out of, I will never ever ever ever ever quit fandom.

<3 I understand. Fully. *has hurts too*

*hugs in mutual suuport* I just don't get it. It's like, people enjoy fandom so much and spend so much time in it--writing fic and loving the characters and getting to know the other fans--and then some people give it all up, I mean quit ENTIRELY, just because they get published or make it big somehow?

I mean, I'm planning on trying to get published, but never ever will I quite fandom. I can't imagine why people do that. It just seems completely like, IDK, like giving up a part of yourself (and probably a large part of the reason why you're published in the first place) in order to be high and mighty and lord it over people who aren't published.

This really bugs me. I'm glad I'm not the only one. ♥

I will never abandon it either. I'm planning to publish my own novels one day. I already have my dedication planned for my first book: To all the slash lovers out there who have made my life a joy.

I hope it has a fandom, because it will be hilarious to watch it.

I've got this epic series planned out, and actually it already has kind of a small fandom--among those who have read it. So I'm very hopeful that it will get some kind of fandom once it's out. It's a five-novel series, urban fantasy, and yeah, I heart it! ♥

The idea of having your own fandom is kind of awesome.

Ooh, me too! Except mine is a lot less organized, lol. I've been working on it for so long, but I have no idea how many books it will take to exhaust it. It'll probably go on forever at this point.

Yeah, I only recently started thinking about the possibility of it having a fandom... the idea is almost too amazing to contemplate, lol. I can't understand why any author would be against it. I can't wait to read the fic! Even the terrible ones. XD

Hey, I have a genius idea! Do you want to exchange originals, concrit each other's, and then give them back? B/c I need some more input. *le sigh*

I know! I'm very excited about fic! [livejournal.com profile] siriuslyyellow has already said that she's going to post up an epicfic on the day the first novel comes out. LOL! :D \o/

That... that would be so cool. No one's ever given me any opinions on my characters before (probably because I don't talk about them to anyone anymore, lol). There are a couple characters I've had for years that I just can't figure out completely... and others I've had for just as long that are basically figured out, but could probably use some outside criticism.
