So I see Uhura as Spock's first relationship, and he needs the experience of it failing to understand why he needs to be with Jim. Um, in my mind? :P
I like this perspective. I think it's also helping Spock learn the difference between humans - like, between how Uhura is acting, and then how Jim is acting. (Which you wrote in this chapter; awesome.)
And don't think I'll make it easy on anybody--Jim being too obviously biased towards Spock is going to have consequences.
