I got to work two and a half hours early, so I walked to the library (it's only 15 minutes away--MADE OF AWESOME) and checked my LJ comments. I was DYING to know what people thought of Apogee 10b, glad I finally know. \o/ A few commenters gave me stuff to think about (I think accidentally, too) so we'll see where 10c goes from here.

I'm planning on attempting to update weekly from here on out--just b/c if I don't, I'll never finish this fucking fic. *headdesk* But my SGA watching and epic note-taking of evidence of canon McShep is sucking up my time. Luckily, I'm only working three days this week, so... there should be enough time to watch SGA, write Apogee, write my original, and fangirl.

Also, I totally have not started writing an epic McShep fic. *looks convincingly innocent*

I'll reply to all comments when I next get online. I've got to walk back now--BUT! [livejournal.com profile] rainbowstrlght, I'll be e-mailing you shortly with more DH comments. B/c I have THINGS to SAY. *nods*

ALSO! Quick semi-poll/question-thingy!! FOR APOGEE READERS: What secondary pairings (besides K/S obviously) would you be interested in seeing, if any at all? I'm just asking b/c a few thoughts have crossed my mind, but I'd like some other people's opinions. ♥

A/N: I HOPE THE FANGIRLISH PARTS MAKE UP FOR THE WAIT. Mission chapters suck. This was an accident--and I mean that. This wasn't supposed to go down this way at all. Clearly arguing with myself only causes hassle for us all. Also, the next part is only partly written. Sorry. I blame many people for how long this took me to get out, but mostly the following: [livejournal.com profile] mariole for her reminder that shuttlecrafts existed and could be used to rescue them (which made me have to brainstorm with [livejournal.com profile] siriuslyyellow interesting ways of taking the shuttlecrafts out of the picture), [livejournal.com profile] rdallyn for getting me to promise her K/S cuddling for warmth (yeah, I knew I was going to put it in anyway, but then I just had to make it REALLY good and not horribly stereotypical), and the LJ user WHOSE SCREENNAME I'VE FORGOTTEN (so please remind me if it's you) for her awesome comments on my original novel (which caused me to work/think about that for a while--especially the autistic!K thing--WHAT'S YOUR SCREENNAME I FORGOT IT FROM FAIL), and the creative teams doing SPN, SGA, and Farscape (which fueled my non-ST fandom interests--NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!) EDIT: I just realized this part was over 10,000 words long. WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS TO MYSELF?! *headdesk*

We Reach Our Apogee Slowly (Part 10b) )
kowaiyoukai: (apologizes)
So there's good news and bad news. The good news is that I meant to update Apogee today, but I couldn't finish it last night because of added witty banter, so it'll be up tomorrow b/c I'M STAYING UP ALL NIGHT TO FINISH IT. The bad news is that I didn't finish the prequel is time for [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang, and life is full of pain for me about it. I'm hoping to finish the prequel soon, but right now I've stopped working on it to go back to the main story.

ALSO! I got a job so I'll have less time to write, and I've got to work on my original too. I'm still aiming for once a week updates, but getting online is becoming more and more of a chore. *headdesk*

I'M SO SORRY FOR THE INCREDIBLY LONG WAIT!! Gargh. I'll try to do better from now on.

There are three main factors to my slow Apogee updating, in case you're curious.

1- I got a job so now I've got way less time to write in. (Worth re-stating, IMHO.)
2- In order to write, I usually have to stay up until around 4 or 5 in the morning before I get in the mood to write, and by then sometimes I'm too tired to do anything.
3- I was lured away by other ST fic and the new season of SPN. But I'm still working on it! It's just... ST FIC AND SPN!! *pines*

[Poll #1462134]

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THIS POLL. I'm only asking b/c I think it's going to take a long time to finish the Apogee story. At first I thought it'd take maybe six months, but it's been like four or five months and it's not where it should be, so now I'm thinking closer to two years. If I update weekly, or at least write a chapter each week, that is. That's either really great or really terrible news, I'm not sure which.

Re: TV Shows and Movies! I watched the first two seasons (almost) of Skins and thought they were great. I FUCKING LOVED "Shelter" and "Were the World Mine"--highly rec'd to anyone who enjoys gay cinema, or gay interest films, or whatever the fuck they're calling them nowadays. And I am on SGA 2x05-ish, and I'm taking EXTENSIVE episode notes on the McShep development. I plan on compiling them into an essay on the canonity (HA HA LOOK AT THAT FUCKING WORD) of their relationship. NO SPOILERS PLEASE I HAVEN'T FINISHED IT YET!! I'm also watching SPN s5, and as my default icon suggests, ANYONE WHO SPOILS ME FOR SPN S5 WILL BE SHOT IN THE FACE WITH A MACHETE. Just FYI.

I got over 1,000 new songs that I'm slowly going through. [livejournal.com profile] fanmix has been very helpful in finding great new music. "You're the Only One" by Maria Mena is FUCKING AWESOME and I'm loving all of my John Sheppard and McShep mixes. ♥

I've updated my icons! YAY! So that's fun times. And I'll catch up on responding to comments (including replies to my fanmix and Apogee 10a) tomorrow when I post 10b. I also have some friending to do, apparently.

ILU FLIST!! See you soon. ♥

SEASON 5 SPN PREMIERE IS IN LESS THAN TWO HOURS!! ROCK ON FLIST!! \o/

In the meantime, I'll be watching The Vampire Diaries and hoping for good vampire slashy goodness. We'll see. THe guys look hot, that's a good start.

And I opened my birthday presents and [livejournal.com profile] jelost made me a shirt! It's a black t-shirt (of course, that's all I really wear) with a picture of Kirk and Spock from the XI movie poster and the words "We Reach Our Apogee Slowly" on the bottom! YAY!! *happy fangirl dancing* I now have a shirt to go with my fic. My gleeful and glorious ecstasy knows no bounds. ♥♥♥

I'll reply to all comments later tonight. Also! I've got to update my flist, I keep running into people who friended me and I haven't friended back yet. Sorry! I'll try to do so ASAP.

ILU FLIST! Enjoy SPN! XD

A/N: So I have excuses for why it's been almost a month with no new Apogee, but I realize no one really cares about my excuses. Just know they're good ones. And here's some news: 10's a multi-parter, so I'll be posting up the rest of it when it's finished. Then it's Othersides 2, and then I'm taking a break to work solely on the Apogee prequel for [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang b/c that's due by September 15th. And if I don't work on it now, it's not getting done. Which would be sad for you guys, really, take my word on this. You want this prequel. BAD.

We Reach Our Apogee Slowly (Part 10a) )
kowaiyoukai: (Star Trek Chris/Zach thinking)
Okay. If you've been reading Apogee, read on. If not, sorry to bother you. Have a cookie. *gives cookies*

Remember how part 6 was divided into 3 sections b/c of lj limits? It's my strong opinion that every mission chapter is going to be similar, divided into smaller sections. So what would you guys rather I do--post all the sections at once (which would take a longer time but have no cliffhangers or awkward ending points) or post as I hit the lj limit (which would mean it goes up faster but it might end at weird spots)?

Thoughts, anyone?
kowaiyoukai: (Star Trek Chris trekkie mind trick)
Ok, so I need an idea for a mission and I need it FAST. I thought I had one that worked but as it turns out, I don't. What can you do? So if there's something you've been wanting to see in Apogee, let me know! Preferably a general mission so I can edit accordingly. Like, if I had to describe 6's mission, I'd say "mystery space disease forces ground team away from ship" or something. So, any ideas?

ALSO! Because it's fun, and don't lie about it, you know it is, I'm going to play the ask a character game! Comment with a question for any of the Apogee characters and I'll reply in character! COME ON, YOU KNOW THIS IS FUN.

Oh, and I posted this over at [livejournal.com profile] kirkspock b/c it's the comm that frightens me the least with mod-slapping. XD The post is here, so I don't lose it when I'm looking for it later.

EDIT: BTW, you can comment with an idea and no question, or with a question a no idea. It's not like you have to do both or anything. XP Also, of course you can have questions for more than one character and/or more than one questions for the same character. Feel free to go nuts! \o/

EDIT 2: Unrelated, but look at this smexy pic of ZQ fucking riding a motorcycle!

OMG EDIT 3: [livejournal.com profile] helpwess pic-spammed with awesome. It will kill your dial-ip, but it's worth it, I say, WORTH IT!! There is ZQ and XFine smexiness!! &harts; PEOPLE THEY ARE SO IN LOVE OMGEEEE I NEED TO WRITE A PINTO. /Pinto fangirling

EDIT 4: Thanks for all of your awesome ideas! I've got the mission figured out now, so I don't need any more suggestions for 10. However, feel free to continue suggesting mission ideas for future missions--although no promises on whether or not they will be used. And of course you can still ask the characters questions! :D

A/N: So there was DISASTER when getting this chapter out. I'm staying at [livejournal.com profile] jelost's house for the week, and lo and behold, there's a fucking tornado warning. So this massive storm came and shut the power off for almost thirteen hours, just when I was in the middle of writing the last section of this. Then the power was out for about 14-15 hours, and then when it came back on, the internet was broke. So I had to wait for [livejournal.com profile] jelost to get home from work so she could fix it b/c kicking it did nothing and I had no more ideas. AND THEN WHEN I'D FINALLY GOTTEN ALMOST TO THE END OF THIS CHAPTER--Word crashed seven times in ten minutes and I had to write the rest of it in Notepad, and re-write a bunch that Word had made into *'s and boxes. DDDDDDD: Apologies to everybody, but especially to [livejournal.com profile] animegirl0087 who bribed me with Star Trek merch to get this part out yesterday AND to [livejournal.com profile] nix_this who bribed me with more fanart to get this part out sooner than I did. I AM EPIC FAIL, but it's really not my fault this time! Oh, and in case anyone's curious/counting, I've hit over 100,000 words in my Apogee Word file. A bunch of it hasn't been posted yet, but still... \o/ Also, I really want to write some porn.

We Reach Our Apogee Slowly (Part 6c) )
kowaiyoukai: (Leverage Eliot/Alec)
[livejournal.com profile] damietta linked me to THIS AWESOMESAUCE NEWSWEEK ARTICLE ON KIRK/SPOCK LOVE which you all should read. Scoot along now and come back when you're done. :P

Also, srsly, does anyone know of really great Chris Redfield/Leon Kennedy epic fanfiction? The more I play as them in RE4 & RE5 and the more I read about them, it's just so obvious. They do have a very serious zombie-killing love, do they not? THIS IS TRUFAX. Now I need an icon, LOL. Oh, Photoshop, my love for you is so epic and true.

In other news, Apogee 6c is coming along SLOOOOOWLY. This is sad for us all. I am starting to reply to comments today, hopefully I'll finish replying in the next few days.

And as for [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang, here's a thought. Do they allow more than one fic per author? MUST INVESTIGATE. B/c really, it's all about the art, Y/Y? I mean, I could write Apogee side-stories all day long, but what do I want ART for? Hmm... I am seriously considering two Apogee prequels. One with Spock and Kirk's respective childhoods, the other with Kirk and McCoy in the Academy. WHAT SAY YOU, FLIST?!

BTW, I am gathering together a new music post, but of course this takes time and patience and good recs. And I have one song I must put up when I've got the chance! "U.S.S. Make Shit Up" by Voltaire. RL friend Nicole gave it to me and HOMG AMAZING.

Oh, wait, I FOUNT IT ON THE WONDERFUL INTERNETZ! http://www.voltaire.net/2007/voltaire%20podcast/Podcast/6C77F090-87AE-46FA-9E39-BEF8460AF7F1.html Go dl this song, people. Lyrics here or here, I think there may be a few differences, meh. Whatevs. *shrugs*

OMG I HAVE TO GO NOW AND I DIDN'T REPLY TO ANY APOGEE 6B COMMENTS! *headdesk* Life is pain.

EDIT: Should I have my daily tweet posts not under lj-cuts? They're short so I don't think it really matters? And it's just more of a pain to click on the cut and then nobody reads them anyway? *scratches head*

I found this poem on a random comment to a random post, which I now cannot find again. Oh, well, such is life. The comment was left by [livejournal.com profile] pikacharma, who wrote after it, "The most beautiful love poem ever, that I sadly did not write, but saw written on a bathroom wall and promptly memorized for the greater good." Here you go:

There once was a Vulcan named Spock
Who, while stroking his monstrous cock
With lust went berserk
And besieged Captain Kirk
"Bend over. This shuttle must dock."

In other news, Apogee part 6 is taking too long to write b/c it's way longer than a usual part is. So, hopefully, it will be up by Monday. My goal is Wednesday at the latest, but if it takes that long I will cry. ;_;

And my computer is still half-broken. D: I'm going to this guy to fix it tomorrow, but I half-think he might just say something's wrong to take my money. WHICH WOULD BE FAIL. -_-;;

And I'm finally caught up on comments to reply to, including the ones on my "het fans hating on slash" rant over two weeks ago! That is utter fail, self. UTTER FAIL.

And now I'm going to walk back home and figure out how the heck to finish part 6 without it being so long it's ridiculous. Although it might still be so long it's ridiculous.

-_-;; *headdesk*
kowaiyoukai: (Star Trek Chris/Zach cuddle)
You know, I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] jelost and I realized that there are still people who "don't get" RPS. I quoted that because it's an odd phrasing. It's saying that they don't understand why people would pair two guys togther in reality. Now, hey, let me start by saying that the idea of wondering if two famous people are dating is not a new one--celebrity magazines do it all the time. In fact, even lots of non-fandom people often keep up with who might be sleeping with who, and who might be gay, and who's breaking up, etc. So, obviously, talking about and imagining two real people getting together has a huge following of people, both in fandom and not.

Second point: I don't think a lot of people who ship RPS view the guys as "real people". In a sense, they're people who are portraying themselves in a certain manner to please their fans, and that's who you're dealing with when you're reading/writing RPS. You're fangirling over the characters the actors are in your mind, not who they actually are IRL, because of course there is no true way for you to ever know how they act when the cameras aren't rolling. That is the point of RPS, isn't it? To try and determine how the actors interact when they're alone. They become characters just as much as the fictional characters they portray are. If that makes sense.

Not to say that I think they're necessarily faking their emotions or close relationships to please fans. Some do, I think, but not everybody. And there's a certain sense you get from people--a chemistry that can't be faked or manufactured (as Zach is so fond of saying)--and it's that chemistry that people sense and flail over. I do think there's a reason certain RPS pairings are popular and others just don't have as many fans. It's the amount of chemistry two actors have, and depending on how obvious it is, the people who see it are the ones who ship it. There's also the interpretation factor. One interview, when viewed by several different people, can give off quite different vibes.

Specifically for RPS, I only ship three pairings: Chris/Zach, Bradley/Colin, and Jensen/Jared. I'm going to put the rest of this under a cut because it might get long. But here's why I ship them, and also why I think, regardless of whether or not they're atcually dating, they're fun to play with.

RPS Below! )

First, Star Trek. Okay, I've seen lots of recs for Home on FFN, so I went to the author Lanaea's page and HOLY FUCKING SHIT. HER FIC HAS 187,963 WORDS IN IT. I'm sorry, but how can ANYOBODY have a STXI fic with that many words? I stay up all night writing three to four times a week and my fic is only just over 60,000, which I think is pretty damn good considering the movie just came out a few weeks ago. Is it just me, or is this crazy?

LOL, now I'm thinking maybe I should go back to FFN to get more comments! OMG I AM SO JEALOUS OF ALL HER REVIEWS! I love getting lots of comments, and LJ's usually good about that. LOL I'm so bad, I shouldn't bitch at all, I'm only on part 5 after all. And the comments I am getting are COMPLETE AWESOMESAUCE! \o/

Also, I'm kind of incredibly hesitant about reading Star Trek fic. Even if it's really good. IDK, a lot of it doesn't really work for me, even if it's highly rec'd. *shrugs* I love great writing, but I worry sometimes. You know, will my characterization change b/c of something this author did? Will this affect my plot? Etc. But I think it probably won't. I've read lots of fics in other fandoms I write for and they didn't affect my writing. Meh, maybe when I'm done with the first major plot arc in Apogee I'll give it a go. If I've got some other fics done to. Plus, I saved what's available, it's not like it's going anywhere, right? :P

And about TDK, I just realized something epic. I DO NOT RELATE AT ALL TO BRUCE WAYNE. I mean it. I think this is why I have problems writing him. His actions make zero sense to me. I mean, the Joker I get. Completely. One hundred percent. No problem. But Batman is like the craziest character ever created, srsly. A billionaire who decides to dress up in black leather to look like a bat and fight crime? I mean, that's nuts. Lock him up and throw away the key nuts. At least the Joker makes sense. Batman is so crazy I don't know what to do when I'm writing him. *headdesk*

EDIT: My stupid profile page isn't doing what I want it to. Damn HTML code. *kicks*
kowaiyoukai: (Star Trek Kirk/Spock)
Title: We Reach Our Apogee Slowly: Othersides 1
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kowaiyoukai
Rating: R
Pairing: eventual like whoa Kirk/Spock (STFU), Spock/Uhura (blame JJ, not me)
Warning(s): Angst, meta, language, attempts at witty banter, overly-important tone, intentionally confusing parts, potentially OOC everybody
Spoilers: Star Trek XI (2009) (a.k.a. Star Trek XI, Star Trek 2009, Star Trek Reboot, New Trek, and can we please just pick one name for this fandom people?!)
Word Count: 6,099 (for this part)
Disclaimer: Star Trek belongs to Gene Roddenberry, mostly, but also a lot of other people/groups like Paramount, J.J. Abrams, and the various writers/directors. I'm not one of those people, sadly, because if I was I'd be filthy rich.
Beta Acknowledgment: None! I know there are errors, so please let me know if you see any! Thanks!
Summary: Every story has other sides.
A/N: So this is the first in a series of side stories I've got planned for Apogee. You can choose to read them or not. They're all from the other characters' perspectives, so Kirk and Spock don't appear as much in these, although they are discussed. There should be one Otherside after every five regular chapters, but that may change. This was written mainly because I kept getting comments on the side characters and I really wanted to show them more, but that takes away from the Kirk/Spock interaction and who wants that?! NOBODY. So this was the answer. Hope you like it! :D

EDIT: So I EPICFAIL and somehow managed to screw up the first paragraph in Scotty's second section. It's fixed now, though-an extra 50 words. *headdesk* I've also gone back and posted links to the next part at the end of each part, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] christycorr's obvious suggestion.
